Biogas plant The proposed gas and composting station at Álfsnes is the next major step in environmental issues in the Reykjavík area. The station is part of a joint waste management policy by the municipalities for 2009–2020. When the gas and composting station becomes operational, all household waste collected in SORPA’s domain will be processed at the station. Organic matter will be used for gas production and composting, which will double gas production.

Up until Q3, biodiesel exports had been up 26% on the year at 741,485 tons but the anti-dumping tariffs of up to 72% were announced in late August. The country has tried to negotiate a floor price for the US market in an attempt to lift the anti-dumping duties but so far no agreement has been reached that satisfies the US industry’s demands.
